STRADA is the prime firm working with the City of Birmingham, in cooperation with the Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority, to update its inner-city public transit system by developing a bus rapid transit (BRT) corridor that will connect 25 neighborhoods. Implementation of the BRT will require the construction of 36 stations along the BRT corridor. The proposed stations will be compact and open air structures incorporating architectural elements from Birmingham’s diverse built environment.
The project corridor is located in Jefferson County within the Birmingham, Alabama city limits. The corridor is approximately 10 miles in length. The proposed corridor begins in the eastern section of Birmingham at the proposed Woodlawn Community Transit Center located along 1st Avenue North between 56th and 57th Streets and extends west from the Birmingham City Business District center, terminating at the CrossPlex Facility in the proposed Five Points West Community Transit Center.
The project has received federal funding, which requires compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). STRADA is responsible for the completion of this task.
